Adult Courses

Foundation Courses

Foundation Courses introduce students to the essential skills and techniques of drawing and painting, focusing on key elements such as line, tone, proportion, colour, and composition. Through structured exercises using materials like pencil, charcoal, oil paint and watercolours, students build confidence, accuracy, and artistic understanding, establishing a strong base for future creative development and personal expression

Specialty Courses

Our Specialty Courses offer a more flexible and self-directed approach to art-making, ideal for students who wish to explore their own projects with guidance rather than follow a structured curriculum. Unlike the Foundation Courses, which focus on building core technical skills through step-by-step studies, the Open Studio structure encourages experimentation, personal expression, and independent practice. Teachers provide tailored support, feedback, and demonstrations as needed, allowing each student to develop their individual style and creative voice at their own pace.

Open Studio - All Abilities

Our Open Studio – All Abilities course is designed to help individuals of all abilities achieve personal growth, social engagement, and creative expression. While we are not an NDIS-registered provider, participants with self-managed or plan-managed NDIS funding may be eligible to enroll/ continue studying with us.

One Day Workshop

Our one day workshops and short intensives for adults offer inspiring approaches to drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and creative expression – perfect for beginners or those returning to art and eager to explore a rich variety of materials and techniques under expert guidance.

Private Tutoring

Private Tutoring is appropriate for students who need direct guidance with their work. At the Melbourne Studio of Art we believe that true progress in the capacity to draw, paint and sculpt happens over extended periods of study and practice. However, we understand that at times people may not be able to attend regular classes and require one on one guidance.
