Children & Teen Classes

Junior & Young Artists

Our Junior and Young Artists classes introduce children to the joy of art through colour, texture, and imagination.

Students explore painting, drawing, sculpture, collage and mixed media while developing coordination, observation, and confidence in their creative expression.

Junior Artist

Junior Artists Studio

The Junior Artists Studio introduces our young artistic children to the language of art through guided projects that gently build early drawing and painting skills. Each term offers age-appropriate challenges that strengthen focus, coordination, and confidence while nurturing imagination and curiosity. Classes are joyful and social, giving children a chance to connect with others while discovering the satisfaction of making art. Our teachers support every child at their own pace, helping them learn how artists see and create.

Young Artist

Young Artists Studio

The Young Artists Studio nurtures growing independence and curiosity as students explore more complex artistic ideas.
Each term, students complete a curated drawing and painting project, along with a complementary project in another medium such as clay, printmaking or collage.
Working on three structured projects each term, we help young artists build focus, develop their individual creativity, and gain a deeper understanding of how artists think and work.

Teen Programs & Advanced Artists

Students build strong foundations in traditional and contemporary art while exploring personal expression and experimentation. Working across pencil, charcoal, acrylic, printmaking, and mixed media, they study portraiture, still life, figure, and landscape. Projects are linked to key artists and movements, fostering confidence, focus, and an appreciation for art as both discipline and creative practice.

Young Teens

Foundations in Art for Young Teens

In our Young Teen Foundations course, students will embark on an exciting journey into the world of art. Using a variety of artistic media, including pencil, charcoal, acrylic paint, printmaking, and mixed media they’ll create hands-on projects that introduce essential art techniques and concepts. Along the way, students will explore influential artists and art movements while developing critical thinking and observation skills. This foundational course builds both skill and confidence, paving the way for more advanced Teen courses.

Teens

Teen Drawing & Painting

The Teen Drawing & Painting studio helps students build strong foundations in both traditional and contemporary art practices. Students develop realist skills in observational drawing and painting, while also exploring elements of experimentation, expressionism, and contemporary process. Working across a range of media including pencil, charcoal, acrylic, printmaking, and mixed media students study portraiture, still life, figures and landscapes to gain a balanced understanding of technique and composition.

Advanced

Open Studio for Advanced Teens

The Open Studio for Advanced Teens offers a dynamic environment for young artists ready to pursue their own creative direction with professional guidance.
Led by two specialist tutors, one focusing on illustrative and character design-based techniques and the other on formal drawing and painting practices, students work independently while receiving tailored feedback and demonstrations.

School Holiday Programs

Our popular holiday programs invite children and teens to explore drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, and creative expression in a professional, inspiring environment that fosters imagination, confidence, and artistic growth.

Private Tutoring

Private Tutoring is appropriate for students who need direct guidance with their work. At the Melbourne Studio of Art we believe that true progress in the capacity to draw, paint and sculpt happens over extended periods of study and practice. However, we understand that at times people may not be able to attend regular classes and require one on one guidance.
